WASTE Reduction and Diversion Goes Regional

Posted by on Feb 14, 2016 in Press

From the years 2010 to 2012, the municipalities of Jasper, Hinton, Edson and Yellowhead County all had solid waste management strategies and implementation work plans developed.
One of the main recommendations included in each of these plans was that the municipalities should consider broadening the mandate of the West Yellowhead Regional Waste Management Authority (WYRWA) to provide a regional approach to waste reduction and diversion.

Over the past 3 years, the WYRWA has been working on this very important recommendation. As a result, a new and enhanced vision, mission statements and guiding principles were developed and agreed upon by the Authority. These are as follows:

Vision:

  • The Authority is to be a leader in regional waste reduction through collaborative efforts to reduce, reuse, recycle and recover and the effective management of waste in the West Yellowhead Region.

Mission:

  • The purpose of the Authority is to manage waste on a regional basis through the promotion of environmental stewardship focused on the reduction of waste disposed of at the West Yellowhead Regional Landfill.

Guiding Principles:

  • The Authority is a regional body that provides an overall environmental stewardship umbrella.
  • The Authority recognizes the specific needs of each individual municipality and the uniqueness of each of their current operations.
  • The Authority promotes the principles of reduce, reuse, recycle, recover and effective waste management.

Further, the Authority has developed a new logo (see below) and website to help support their new vision.
